It is finally here, the newest release of SAP S/4HANA Cloud for product compliance. Let’s look into one of the big topics addressed in this release in a bit more in detail: Labeling.
We have GHS labeling, API for label templates, label configurations and compliance requirements for labels. Starting with GHS Labeling, this new app allows you to add graphics, different types of statements (see the screenshot below) and attachments in the creation of unique labels for your unpackaged product or raw material.
The statements available come preloaded in many different languages, and you are also able to add your own information or hide phrases in the Manage Phrase-Enabled Fields app. Another key point is you can adjust the order of the labels and texts.
Included in the content for this app are the compliance requirements for EU GHS Consumer Labeling and EU GHS Labeling, as well as World GHS Consumer Labeling (2019 and 2021 versions) and World GHS Labeling (2019 and 2021 versions).
Maybe you are thinking, what is the goal of all this labeling software? The product compliance teams want to provide secure data management and process integration with S/4HANA, combined with amazing label designs from partner solutions. One of the ways to do this is by API’s.
With this OData API when you design a label template using another program, metadata (metadata, this could be version names or status) from the template can now be imported into your SAP system. This extends the Label Field Catalog API which was delivered in January 2022 which provides a catalog of label fields to be used during label template design. This opens up the interface and allows you to choose the partner solution to integrate with, to enable selection of the desired label template designs.
Related to the Label Template Metadata API, you can now create label configurations. A label configuration reflects the label category and the label template that is relevant. It also contains information about the applicable compliance requirements to a label. The configuration is used to prepare setup for a product label.
You have a product and want to manage the label assignment; we can help with that too. Label assignments contain a label category and the corresponding label configurations for it. By creating a label assignment for a product in the system, you perform an initial setup of label-relevant information for that product. Additionally, you can send a label assignment for printing to an external system.
You can see here some screenshots to view, create, and edit compliance requirements for labels. Once you have finished defining the compliance requirement, you can release it and use it in follow-on business processes in label management, such as the preparation of label configurations.
The compliance pattern determines which data you can enter in the compliance requirement and how this data is used in the label management processes. Once you have finished defining the compliance requirement, you can release it. When a compliance requirement has been updated by the issuing organization, you can create a new version of the released compliance requirement.
This labeling project is by no means finished; this is just another step to developing a smooth, easy-to-use system.
