Tax Box Structure in SAP S/4HANA Cloud: Few Steps to Avoid Issues When Maintaining Validity Intervals

Hi everyone,

If you use SAP S/4HANA Cloud and need to maintain tax box structures as time-dependent for reporting requirements, you probably have already come to maintaining the Define Enhanced Tax Box Structure activity, or will do in a near future.

Here are a few steps for you to keep in mind when maintaining this activity for different countries/regions.

Finding the configuration activity in different configuration environments

In your SAP S/4HANA Cloud configuration environment, search for the Define Enhanced Tax Box Structure activity.

In SAP Central Business Configuration, you find the activity as follows:

If you use Manage Your Solution app, in Configure Your Solution you find the activity as follows:

For more information about the different configuration environments, see Configuration Environment of SAP S/4HANA Cloud.

Let’s check the following sections with examples from the Configure Your Solution configuration environment.

Copying a tax box structure (TBS) with a new validity interval

  1. You can use an existing tax box structure with a new validity interval by selecting Copy.
  2. Fill in the Valid From and Valid To fields as needed.
  3. Press Enter.
The following message appears: “Overlapping records are deleted or delimited.”.
  4. Press Enter again to confirm the message.
  5. A pop-up message appears to specify if dependent objects, such as Tax Boxes and Tax Groups should be copied as well. Select Copy all.
  6. Save your entries.

You can select Expand-<->Collapse to check the old and new lines with different time validity intervals.

Note that the old validity interval ends one day before the new validity interval starts.

Here’s a short video with these steps:

Delimiting of validity interval

  1. You can delimit the validity interval of an existing tax box structure record by selecting a row and Delimit.
  2. In the pop-up window, fill in the Valid To field, and press Enter.
The original interval ends by the date the new record is entered.

Here’s a short video with these steps:

Solving duplicity interval issue

When you try copying or adding a row and you get an error with the following message: “An entry already exists with the same key”, go back and review all the existing intervals by selecting the Expand-<->Collapse button.

Delete the entries you don’t need any longer:

For more information, you can always refer to the Configuration Help of the configuration activity in the system.

Now it’s all set. Your tax box structures are ready for your reporting activities.
