SAP Analytics Cloud In-story Calculation Series – Blog3: Count Pass/Fail results and calculate the pass rate

This is the third blog of the SAP Analytics Cloud In-story Calculation Series. If you are interested in learning more about In-story Calculation, please check out our blog series here.

Scenario:

Your IT department has GDPR exam results of employees in the format of Pass/Fail/No Show. They want to calculate the pass rate and analyze the pass rate by region and manager.

In-story Calculations:

  • Aggregation + Restricted Measure + Calculated Measure

Create an Aggregation to count the dimension – Exam Result

You may notice there is no Measure in the dataset provided by your IT department. In this case, you can easily handle this by creating an Aggregation to count the dimension – Exam Result.

After clicking “OK”, you are able to know the number of Exam Result records in the data set, which can be validated by comparing with the number of rows in the dataset. In this scenario, we have 393 records of Exam Result.

Restrict the Count of Exam Result to get the count of “Pass”

To calculate the Pass Rate, we first need to figure out how many employees have passed the GDPR exam. Using the Restricted Measure I introduced in the previous blog, it’s easy to obtain this number. Let’s create a Restricted Measure for the Count of Exam Result.

Here we get 328 records of Exam Result – Pass.

Calculate the Pass Rate

The last step is to create a Calculated Measure to obtain our desired result.

Finally, we get the Pass Rate:

Build your analysis

Now we can analyze the Pass Rate by Region and Manager freely using the calculations we just created.
